After carrying our babies for eleven consecutive years, I suppose I fall into the "baby wearing" category. I honestly couldn't imagine mothering any other way. Babies are calmer, more peaceful, and in a mind-developing state of "quiet alertness" when close to a loving care-giver. A recent article in TODAY was published about the importance of holding your baby. As I write this, I am currently carrying a clingy, teething baby on my back, bouncing him up and down. I would literally get nothing done without a baby carrier.
Lorene has also generously offered to give a $100 certificate to Frog Mama to go towards your carrier of choice! I had the opportunity of trying out several of the carriers offered on Frog Mama for a few weeks to provide you with a review. Before I begin, I would like to say that each of them were amazing in their own way. The most important part about baby wearing is learning how to properly wear your baby with each specific carrier. Lorene has a YouTube channel where she teaches how to do this. If you are in the Shasta County area, you have the added privilege of being able to set up an appointment with her where you can try on any carrier you're interested in and she will show you how to properly put it on. Now on to the review:
What I liked most: This was the coziest carrier I tried. I could feel Joseph and myself immediately relax and snuggle when we wrapped it on. Also? It's gorgeous.
Comfort level: Highest!
Ease of wear: Once I learned to properly wrap, it goes on like clockwork. You can adjust it to fit perfectly for you and your baby's body shape and size. It can be warn from infancy to toddlerhood.
Versatility: There is no end to the ways you can carry your baby with it: side, back, front, rucksack, hip-cross, kangaroo... It's a fun one to play around with.
What can't this carrier do?! First of all, it carries high which I really like. My baby's head is closer to mine and that is quite cozy and happy.
The carrier goes up high and supports baby's back really well, so when they decide to arch, they don't throw you off balance.
Are you out and about and grabbing a bite to eat at a restaurant or are at a friend's house and you need a place or baby to eat or just sit? This carrier doubles as a high chair!
Lorene shows us how easy it is to use as a high chair in this video:
What I liked most: The shoulder straps and belt is very padded and comfortable. It's easy to put on and adjust, and I love the high chair feature!
Comfort level: Very high!
Ease of wear: Easiest for me who is used to wearing an Ergo Baby Carrier.
Versatility: Can be worn in the front or back from six months old into toddlerhood.
I wore this one to our local nursery and into the garden for the day. This is a very comfortable, new carrier specifically for toddlers!
Here is another video, showing us how to wear this carrier:
What I liked most: Comfort and ease to put on, and how well it fit my toddler.
Comfort level: High
Ease of wear: Very high!
Versatility: Carries babies 18-48 pounds, adjustable and removable chest strap, ability to shorten the height of the panel, and can be worn in the front or back.
Please consider blessing this family as they save up for their adoption! And please enter to win a $100 gift certificate towards a carrier of choice below!

This has been such a fun giveaway! If you aren't the winner I really recommend that you mosey on over to Graham Gardens and do a little Christmas shopping. Maybe even treat yourself to a little something, as well. You won't be disappointed. Are you the winner? Check below! If it's you, email me your address and we'll have Graham Gardens send your bundle on over.
I'm giving the first Christmas present a little early this year. It could be for you!
We have enjoyed Graham Gardens wholesome skincare for a couple years. Their goods are made of the highest, purest quality ingredients and can be used on the most sensitive of skin. After receiving their Babybird Gift Basket at Joseph's shower, it has become my favorite diaper care collection I've ever tried; and I've used several. Their scrubs are simply indulgent (my favorite is ipanema), their butter bars have healed many a dry skin in this house, and I used their cocoa rub to soothe my itchy baby belly last year. Clear Skies Ahead, a new mentholated vapor rub, just helped Jeremy through a bout of bronchitis. I love how buttery it is. Other kinds we have tried are a lot thicker and harder to apply. We have tried each of their smooth lip balms, and I can't choose a favorite; they're all yummy!
Their soap is the only kind we use. There are so many delicious fragrances to try, all of which come from essential oils; nothing fake or harmful. This time of year is my favorite time to stock up. It's Christmas soap season! If you have never tried them, you are in for a treat. To top it all off, a new seasonal soap will be available this Friday: Simmering Wassail! I am swooning and filled with much anticipation.
Receiving a package of Graham Gardens goodness in the mail is like Christmas. Luxurious fragrances meet your nose as you open the box and discover little organic candies sprinkled over your order. Each item is beautifully and tastefully dressed. I honestly sit there and take in each lovely wrapper and tin before opening it.
Graham Gardens offerings have been my favorite stocking stuffers and gift basket fillers for the past couple Christmases. They are just so pretty and fragrant and effective! I guess it is easy to say that we a huge fans of this company.
I am tickled to offer you this Graham Garden Winter Bundle! What you will receive is pictured above:
Giveaway begins Monday, November 5th and ends Friday, November 9th. The winner will be randomly chosen shortly after the giveaway closes and announced on a separate post here on riddlelove, so be sure to check in to see if you won! Giveaway open to US residents only. Congratulations Janice, for winning the kit! The other ten winners also listed below have won the orange oil and magazine. Please email me your shipping info so I can forward it to doTERRA and they will send your prize!
The giveaway has ended, and we have a winner! It was really fun reading all your comments and seeing which songs touched your hearts. A lot of work went into this project and it is so great to know it's being received. We already have two other albums in the works: "Without Words" will be our first instrumental compilation. I'm really looking forward to this one for bedtimes and background music to soundtrack our days. "The Loft Sessions 2" is also in the works! Jeremy just finished three new songs for it and in my very unbiased opinion, they are AMAZING!!!
Congratulations to Andrew W!
We actually have another giveaway going on for an essential oil starter kit! I have really enjoyed using this kit and seeing immediate results on my family, and I'm so excited to offer you a chance to win one. Take a gander here!
I am so very pleased to offer this essential oils introductory kit generously provided by Simona of doTERRA oils. This kit includes an introductory audio CD and booklet highlighting the uses of essential oils and three 5ml bottles of doTERRA's CPTG (Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade) oils: lavender, lemon and peppermint. The stunning presentation box also includes suggested uses of the included oils, providing you with an immediate experience of the wonderful benefits of essential oils.
What to do with these oils? For starters, each of these oils would be amazing in my 3-minute deodorant recipe. Peppermint oil
If we ever feel nauseous, we simply open up the peppermint oil bottle and breathe in for immediate relief.
Mix a drop in with a tablespoon of coconut oil and rub on feet or stomach to treat an upset stomach.
Mix a drop of peppermint oil and lavender oil with coconut oil to rub on to growing pains or sore muscles.
Lavender oil
If you're having trouble sleeping, try applying a few drops of the lavender oil on the bottom of your feet before sleeping.
Do you enjoy lemon water? Simply add a drop of lemon oil to your water. You can even carry the cute lil bottle around in your purse to add to any drink you may get while you're out and about. This saves you from absorbing the toxic pesticides the lemon wedges from restaurants deposit in your water.
Add a drop of lemon oil and a spoonful of honey into hot water to make a tea that soothes sore throats and coughs.
Use to clean kitchen counters and stainless steal (find out how in the included CD).
BONUS! Not only can you enter for a chance to win this introductory kit, Simona is also giving away ten 5ml bottles of wild orange oil along with a doTERRA fall magazine which includes tips and recipes! It also contains articles on how to use these oils in your home or classroom to improve the learning environment, a natural beauty guide, pointers for men's grooming, and more. Orange oil
This oil is used to lift moods. Open the jar and give it a whiff, or sprinkle some on some natural decorations like pine cones to scent your home.
Orange oil is also a fabulous ant repellant.
It can also be used in natural wood cleaners.
There are many other uses each oil has; the DVD and magazine contain several more. It's really quite simple and I never knew how fun it was to play with these nourishing, essential oils.
Enter now! Be sure to check the Facebook page for discounts and more ways to use essential oil. DETAILS This giveaway begins Friday, October 18th, 2012, and ends Monday, October 25th, 2012. Winners will be announced in a separate blog post here on Riddlelove shortly after the entry time ends, so be sure to check back in next week to see if you've won! Enter below:
It's been a tradition around here to give away an album that my husband is apart of when it releases. In keeping with this tradition, I offer you a chance to win a copy of For the Sake of the World DVD/CD set.
It might be a strange giveaway for this kind of blog, but this project and our family are woven together through joy, hard work, sacrifice, and relationship. Versions-in-progress of many of these songs were played over and over again during our nightly family devotions. When an idea would come, everything paused as Jeremy worked out a new detail of the song. The children and I listened to daddy work on this album almost daily for the last year. Our homestead is even captured at the end of the "extras" feature on the DVD. I won't give it all away, but Jeremy has a moment playing matador with Shamrock the ram and Jer may or may not refer to himself as "daddy" to our woolen monster.
This isn't just a nuclear family project, but our friends involved with it are family. Brian and Jenn were the first to bring us a dinner (along with several adorable baby outfits) when Joseph was born. We spent our favorite Fourth of July ever camping out with Leah (BJVs) and her family. When Jeremy was recently away on a two-week trip, William, Graham (percussion), and Graham's sweet sister came over to keep us company and even help clean the house.
We are so thankful for our church family and I am very happy to offer the fruit of our labor to you.
Well, the first winner of this gorgeous basket never contacted me. Sad for her, happy for you! This basket really wants to make a home happy, so the new winner chosen by random.org is...

Thank you for joining the Riddlelove 2nd birthday celebration!
Happy 2nd birthday to Riddlelove! We are kicking off the celebration with a most lovely gift basket giveaway from one of my absolute favorite shops, Graham Gardens. I just received my order from them last week. It was like Christmas, I tell you. The pure, herby fragrance of the box's contents could be smelled the moment I removed it from the mailbox. I opened up the box with my five-year-old and she shrieked with delight at the organic candies sprinkled all over the top. I shrieked with delight at the goodies inside. My husband swiped the peppermint candy lip balm and made happy sounds as he tried it out. I used the Coffee Break Lip Balm and it totally made this coffee-lover-on-a-coffee-maternity-leave one happy mama. And no, it doesn't cause coffee breath. No one can smell it but the one wearing it, and it smells like a nice, fresh cuppa. I'm thinking these lip balms (and pretty much everything from Graham Gardens) will make for some delightful stocking stuffers in a few short months... We ordered a sampling of their very pure, GAPS-friendly soaps so we could choose our favorite. It's the cutest little bundle, don't you think?
I have always been one to swoon over pretty packaging. This family-owned shop not only offers pure, high-quality, safe, hypoallergenic skincare, they wrap it all up in the sweetest tins and packages. It made my day feel quite special to open it all up, I must say.
Graham Garden has very generously offered to give one of my readers the gorgeous gift basket pictured above, all prepared in a black gable gift box with the contents nestled on top of a bed of excelsior grass. The contents of the basket comes to a $63 value which includes:

Also, if ya just need some Graham Garden goodness right away, enjoy the coupon code "Riddlelove25" to get 25% your entire order!
A few months ago, I stumbled upon an herb and tea company that caught my attention. Intrigued, I signed up for their newsletter to receive coupons and especially their free e-book on how to use herbs. After devouring the book, I decided I wanted to open an apothecary shoppe (you have to spell "shop" the old way when you're talking about apothecaries, you know). The world of herbs is fascinating, and really much simpler than imagined. It just makes sense that there would be certain plants and flowers that were created to aid our health, you know? After being so inspired to delve into the wonderful world of herbs and teas with real, health-promoting benefits, I'm excited to share with you an opportunity to give it a try for free!
Not only does this family-owned and run company carry nutritionally potent herbs and pre-mixed teas of all kinds, they offer a wide variety of culture starters if you'd like to start making your own kefir, yogurt, or kombucha. They also carry a wide variety of sprouting kits & seeds, herbal healing salves, handmade soaps, lip balm, and accessories for making tea and your own herbal capsules. You better believe I'm thinking about Christmas this time of year, and I plan to buy several Christmas presents for the tea lovers and natural health kindreds in my life.
Why order specialty teas from Savvy Teas & Herbs? Because you are guaranteed to receive herbs and teas that still hold their potent, health-promoting properties, unlike most teas and herbs that have been sitting on the grocery store shelves for too long and have not only lost their rich flavor, but their healing properties. If I'm going to invest our carefully budgeted money on something like this, I want it to count.
Savvy Teas & Herbs has graciously offered to give one of my readers a $25 gift card to their amazing shop(pe)! There are several ways to enter, but first, the mandatory one:
VisitSavvy Teas & Herbs and come back to leave a comment telling me what you'd get with your $25 gift card, should you win. This might be hard, there are so many fun choices!

So. GAPS. The more I read about it, the more I believe in it. From eczema to schizophrenia. From acid reflux to diabetes. It can help it all. Also, it's a temporary diet, not necessarily a lifestyle change forever. I like that too. But here's the deal. If you have heard anything about the GAPS diet, it is hard core. Not for the faint of heart. Especially if you have kids. I'll admit, I've been intimidated for sure.
But look! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's Cara from Health, Home, and Happiness to the rescue! Cara knows GAPS like no one else I've seen (well, her and Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride, MD, of course). Cara has partnered with Dr. Campbell-McBride, applied her experience using GAPS with herself and two young children, and has written this incredibly encouraging, 57-page ebook, What Can I Eat Now? 30 Days of Recipes and Tips for the GAPS Intro Diet. This book is extremely holistic. Not only does it provide simple instructions to prepare before you launch into the 30 day diet (laid out day-by-day), Cara shares simple recipes for personal care products. I made her deodorant recipe and it was as easy as pie! Not only was it super simple, it was actually effective. Way more effective than the store-bought kind I've been using. Win!
Besides all the simple, satisfying meal and snack recipes she provides in her day-to-day to do lists, Cara helps you learn to read your body, what it might be going through, and how to navigate any discomforts. I have found this ebook to be extremely helpful and I feel very inspired to got for GAPS!

Thanks to everyone who participated in this giveaway. If you aren't one of the winners, I encourage you to buy a sample bag from Nuts4Soap and try them out. I think you'll like them as much as we do! As we transition sssslllloooowwwwlllyyy into GAPS, it's not just our diet that needs to change, but everything we use on our bodies, including laundry detergent. Discovering soap nuts has been so huge because it's not only GAPS-legal, but it doesn't take any extra effort to use them instead of the detergent I had been using before. I love it when a healthy change isn't a time commitment, don't you?

I should be a salesman, I tell you.
I received a bag of these last month and have absolutely loved them. It's green. It's crunchy. It's effective. And talk about no packaging! Think about the bulky containers laundry soap comes in. Now look at the picture above. Once you've washed about six loads with four of these nuts in the cute bag provided (you get about 20 nuts in a sample bag), the nuts are ready to be composted. No waste, folks! I can't tell you how happy this makes me. Also, these nuts are...
BABY & H.E. SAFE!
Soap nuts produce very little suds, so they are perfect for your High-Efficiency washing machine. They are also fragrance, dye, and additive-free, and they are 100% hypo-allergenic; perfect for baby's soft skin.
Want to see for yourself? Nutz4Soap has graciously offered to give away SIX sample bags of soap nuts to my beautiful readers! There are oh so many ways to enter:
