Internship Information

We are thrilled at your interest in this internship!  God is awakening the beauty of organic arts in the hearts of a growing amount of people and we are honored to partner with this movement.  The following is an explanation of what Organic Arts is and what this internship will look like.  We want you to be able to make a prayerful and informed decision if this internship is right for you, so please read the following before you apply.

What is "Organic Arts"?
By definition, organic means, “denoting a relation between elements of something such that they fit together harmoniously as necessary parts of a whole.”  We acknowledge that, inasmuch as the western culture would like to compartmentalize every area of life (we learn at school, exercise at the gym, worship in church…), everything we do and say releases a reaction into all realms of our lives.  Slowing down to enjoy a sunset can inspire poetry that has been cultivating deep within our hearts.  Caring for creation is an act of worship.  My garden is my grocery store, gym and tanning salon.  Organic Arts is appreciating humble beginnings, savoring the process and celebrating around the harvest table, spiritually, emotionally, and physically in unity.  Organic Arts, in our opinion, consists of intentional living, creativity, and community.

Intentional Living
Intentional living is thoughtful.  It is not a lifestyle driven by convenience, but looks beyond itself and into the lives of others, as well.  How can our choices better ourselves, our families and friends, our community, our land, and the earth?  Intentional living is a life rich in experiences, memories, dreams, expression, and fulfillment.  Everything has a deeper purpose and richer beauty.

Creativity
In every day, every meal, every housecleaning, every interaction with young and old, people and plants, birds and beasts, trees and seeds, creativity is waiting to be released.  Creatives are alert and looking, finding beauty and learning how to partner with it in their unique ways.  Activating the creative in you is one of the main goals of this internship.

Community
We lead by example more than ideas, words or pictures.  Our goal for this internship is to train and activate leaders in the community and to captivate those around them just by being who they are and doing what they love.  Enthusiasm in the organic arts is captivating.  It awakens those exposed to it to discover, slow down, savor, ponder, and tread lighter.  As a community of organic artisans, we unlock each other’s dreams, encourage in times of growth and pruning, support one another, and create a safe place to grow and just be.  This is a community of mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, teachers, students, dreamers, and doers.  If this resonates in your heart, please read the general commitment overview below.  We are honored by your interest.

Commitment
The current internship term will be from August 12-November 15, 2016.  The minimum requirement will be five hours a week, with some weeks fuller and some quieter than others.  Days will be somewhat flexible, but because of the weather, hours will be in the mornings, between 8am-noon.  Two hours a week will be your choice in the following time slots: Mondays-Thursdays, 8;00am-10:00am, and each Friday, we will spend time connecting, sharing, and training from 9:00am-noon.

This term will be focusing on milking a goat, organic gardening, harvesting, home arts such as learning how to make artisan sourdough breads, learning to include children in everyday home life, hosting beautiful dinners, and so much more.  Some of the assignments will require an able body for physical activity (weeding, raking, pushing a wheel barrow, shoveling, etc.)  There will be a small amount of required documentary-watching and reading throughout the term.  At the end of each week, there will be focused connection and discussion times.

We have started a website and social media accounts for the Organic Arts Collective as an opportunity for interns to share anything they want during their time here, whether it be photography, ponderings, poetry, prose, devotionals, videos...  This will be place to invite the world into our process, in hopes to inspire and spark creative expression from others, as well.

This is an unpaid internship program that does come with other perks, such as periodically going home with generous amounts of organic vegetables from the garden, fresh milk, warm sourdough bread, and other home goods.

If you are a parent, imparting what you learn from this internship is our dream, but during your interning hours, your children cannot accompany you, as this will be a time that requires all of your focus for your maximum benefit.  However, our 14-year-old daughter has completed baby-sitting training through Red Cross, has lots of experience, and is available to hire as an on-site baby-sitter for $10 per hour, per child.
You must have dependable transportation to and from our land, located 15 minutes from Bethel Church in Redding, CA.

Your term will start with a welcome brunch and an in-depth look at what the next three months will look like.  Once we accept your application and you have had the chance to look over and sign the agreement, we expect you to honor your commitment throughout the entire term.  Please apply below if you can fulfill this commitment.  We very much look forward to reading your application.

*Application deadline is Friday, August 5, 2016, 11:00pm PST.*

  1. Dear Katie and community… I so wish I lived near you and even if I lived near, then would be the hurdle of five children underfoot ... Now is not the time in my life to join but I so would if I could.

I am excited about the forum and a place for all of us can be inspired by the creativity community and organic practices that are going on at your homestead. I look forward to checking in, interacting and sharing on that new website as well.
