Brownies Topped with FUDGE Recipe... I'm Sorry

If you're anything like me, you'll save this recipe for sharing at potlucks and dinner parties; making it for your own enjoyment could be lethal.  My dear, sweet mother made these brownies all throughout my childhood years, and I assumed brownies always had fudge on top.  It wasn't until I embarrassed myself at a tender, young age and informed a friend's mom that she forgot to put the fudge on top of her brownies.  Instead of the thankful, relieved expression I was expecting, she stared at me like I was crazy.  Lesson learned.  This recipe is just too good not to share, and thankfully my mom doesn't believe in secret recipes, so if you know her, thank her.  Hug her.  Tell her how amazing she is.  Thank you.

Mama Scarborough's Brownies
You will need:
For the Brownies
4 oz. unsweetened chocolate
2/3 cup butter
2 cups sugar (I use rapadura if I'm making them for people who share my love of nutrition)
4 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/4 flour (use spelt if you're hardcore healthy.  Then again, if you're hardcore healthy, you're probably ignoring this recipe altogether.  Oh well.  Just live a little.  Um.  Back to the recipe...)
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 9x13x2 baking pan.  Melt chocolate and butter in large saucepan over low heat.  Remove from heat.

Mix in sugar, eggs, and vanilla.
Stir in remaining ingredients and spread in pan.
Bake about 30 minutes.  Do not over-bake.  Gooey brownies are the best.
Cool slightly, then frost.
Fudge Frosting
1 cup sugar
5 Tablespoons butter
1/3 cup milk
1 cup chocolate chips

Combine sugar, butter, and milk in saucepan.  Bring to a boil and stir constantly for 1 minute.
Remove from heat.  Stir in chocolate chips till smooth.  Pour over partially cooled brownies.
Heavens to Betsy, these things are delicious.

  1. I'm commenting again since my comment disappeared (last week too!)! Fabulous recipe - will have to try, but only for a crowd! :)

  2. Thank you! I know, I'm so frustrated about disappearing comments! I stopped using comment luv because of this problem. Thanks for commenting again. :)

  3. My mom used to frost brownies--sometimes--and those were my favorites. My husband actually prefers brownies with no frosting (go figure), so that's how I make them now.

I value your feedback. Thanks for taking the time to share yours!
